| Lakeside Mall instills Hope back into the community |
Lakeside Mall has chosen Hope Orphanage Shelter as one of its community upliftment initiatives. General Manager Chantell Roemer states, “We want to brighten up the days of the little Kingsway children and staff at the shelter and by doing so we aim to bring more hope to the community.”Hope Orphanage started in 2006 with the aim of bringing hope back to orphans and vulnerable children, many of whom have been impacted by the high HIV/AIDs pandemic in the community and left with no adult care-givers or protection. The shelter operates on the principle that every child has a right to education, clothing, protection, love, shelter, food, health and self-dignity. Children aged one to four are cared for and with 70 – 80 children accommodated, the shelter provides parental care so that these children can lead normal lives. During Lakeside Mall’s first visit to the shelter, the Marketing team distributed brightly coloured beanies to the delighted children. Lakeside Mall received a generous Coca–Cola sponsorship to plant a new garden and grass for the play yard which was also warmly welcomed by the Hope Orphanage family. Lakeside Mall has plans to improve several aspects of the shelter that will benefit the little ones in its care on a long term basis, including décor, food, clothing and toy collection. Lakeside Mall will also plan a number of outings for the children, so that they are able to experience movies and restaurants as well as the action-packed, fun-filled holiday programmes that the Mall arranges every school holiday. “Tenants at Lakeside Mall will be included, so that everyone can be a part of enriching these children’s lives and creating a sustainable lifestyle.” Says Chantell Roemer.
